Amy, you are an amazing woman who embodies the truth that God’s grace is sufficient for the circumstances He has knowingly and still lovingly allowed in your life. You have incredible parents who are obviously trusting the Lord too in spite of watching their precious child endure unimaginable pain. The joy of our Lord will continue to strengthen you all as you continue to trust Him and uphold each other. Thank you for allowing us to “see” how well you are doing. Your smile is such a blessing! It is going to be so exciting to watch you embrace God’s special plan for your amazing life. Love and prayers…..

You Have The Most Beutiful Smile I Have Ever Seen!!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I Am Praying For You!!!!! God Bless You All!!!!!!!! 🙂

  2. 7-7-2012

Rock on, beautiful girl! Love that huge smile on your face. I hope you are comfortable in your new digs.

I’ve hesitated so many times to comment here. I don’t have any brilliant advice; no sage wisdom to offer. I’ve never been through anything like what you’re going through, so I can’t give you tips or tell you I know what it’s like. I refuse to say something like, “I’m so sorry for you!” because I find pity infuriating… So I guess I just wanted to tell you that I think of you often. I’ve never met you, wouldn’t know you if I saw you in the grocery store (which would be highly unlikely anyway, given that I’m in WV)… But I think of you almost every day. I just wanted you to know that. Take care of you, Aimee. Can’t wait to read about the next chapter of your journey.

I believe that God has blessed our world by allowing Amiee in it(at least in my life that’s for sure). I know I’ve never met you in person but you truly made an impact in my life. It feels like every time i want to complain about something, you give me the courage to believe that everything is going to be okay. Also everywhere i go i mention how strong you are (without even knowing you). I feel like your father Andy has introduced me to a beautiful person. THANK YOU ANDY!!!

I don’t see what has happened to you as a negative impact, I consider this a world record because not even the strongest and most talented person can pull something like this. From day one, you had such a positive attitude and i want to be as strong and willing as you are.I think what i am trying to say is…. that I really look up to you as a woman Amiee.

I don’t know what you are feeling but, i do know that you are human; with that being said… i know what you’ve done and what you will do, not everyone is capable of. I know you don’t know me but word of honesty from a stranger name Trish…..I believe in you.

By the way, you have an amazing family !!!xo

  4. 7-8-2012

My heart is happy because of your recovery, my heart is happy because of your faith, your mutual love. You have a great gift from God ,rise from weakness and share the pain and hope with people. To the story we are living with you, is lesson about the realities that are truly important in human life: faith, prayer, love, family,.God bless you. Sorry on my grammar.

  5. 7-8-2012

Aimee, You can add me to the list of people you have inspired and had such a positive impact on. I’m so happy that you have moved out of the hospital and can move forward with rehab. I’ve followed your situation from the very beginning and as I’ve mentioned before, I feel such a strong spiritual connection to you as I was struck by a serious tissue infection only weeks before yours. It is only because of my wife’s urging that I recieved medical attention in time to avoid losing my arm or more. I have prayed and thought about you every day and I want you to know how impressed I am by your determination and your strong faith and perspective of seeing the blessing in all of this. I’m amazed, but I also “get it” because I see life in much the same way. The combination of my own experience coupled with the inspiration from you has given me a new mission in life to enrich the lives of amputees through outdoor experiences utilizing horseback riding. God has already opened doors to this opportunity. Just this week a friend introduced me to a young lady who is a graduate student and intern in the field of prosthetics and physical therapy who will be helping me with the technical elements of utilizing prosthetics in horseback riding and even the possibilities of providing instruction to interested persons in my specialty of trick riding. She shared a wealth of information already and is referring a potential rider from her clinic for me to work with. I’m am so thrilled and hope this endeavor can enrich many lives.
Aimee, you inspire me and I know you will meet the challenges of rehabilition with great spirit and determination. I will continue to pray for your success and I know that you will inspire many, many people.

  6. 7-8-2012

So very excited about your recent milestones in rehab, Aimee. Your dad has described you as strong and independent, so I can only imagine how total reliance on others for the past two months has challenged you personally! I take for granted brushing my teeth or walking out the door, and I only have a glimmer of how much physical and emotional effort each of those tasks will take for you to accomplish — but I know you will do it. Though we don’t know each other, I think of you often and pray that God’s love and mercy will continue to flow into your life and the people who are touched by your story. Warmest of hugs from afar… Keep rockin’ it!

  7. 7-8-2012

    Aimee,

I love hearing updates on you because you are truly an example of Gods amazing work. Keep on fighting and being strong! One thing I know Is that God spent extra time on you.. 🙂

Don’t know what to say… I have been following your story from day one and impatiently waited for your father’s postings about your condition. Now you are leaving the hospital… That’s beyond all words and wishes.

You are an amazing young woman and God’s goodness is great. You and your wonderful family deserve all the best.

  19. 7-9-2012

Aimee, I just checked to see how you were doing, and I was pleased (but not surprised) to see how well you are. When I was about 12 years old, my mother handed me a book of the world’s greatest poetry, and suggested I read this one:

    If

If you can keep your head when all about you
    Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too:
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated don’t give way to hating,
    And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

    If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;
If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim,
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same:.
If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
    And stoop and build’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings,
And never breathe a word about your loss:
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much:
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

    (by Rudyard Kipling)

I’m 59 years old now, and when times are really tough I go back and read it. I always seem to find something in it that helps.

  20. 7-9-2012

Rejoicing with you! What an exciting occasion!

  21. 7-10-2012

Aimee, I have been following your progress & keeping you in my prayers since May. I am so very happy, to say the least, that you are able to go home. You, as so many others have said, are a very strong person. God bless & keep you in His care as you continue to heal & always be your guiding light. Debbie

  22. 7-10-2012

Aimee, You are truly amazing! I really enjoy reading your updates, and continue to watch and marvel at your recovery. We can’t understand the mind of God, or what his will for our lives is during times of trial, but your strength and the fervor you have for life through it all has astounded me and made me raelize that just because life isn’t easy sometimes doesn’t mean we can’t take every moment as an opportunity to portray God’s love, and show our faith in Christ. God loves you more than you can ever imagine and I pray you never lose that amazing spirit he gave you. God bless you and your family.

  23. 7-10-2012

  25. 7-10-2012

I was scoping out Huffingtonpost’s Crime section one day…crime seems to appeal to me, when I noticed the article of your daughter, Aimee. Very weird that this type of story would fall under a crime section, but as I started reading, I began praying for her. About a week later, as I had been growing in the Lord, I awoke in the depths of my sleep praying in the Lord’s language. I knew it was for Aimee.

I wasn’t going to post anything about what had happened. I’m still relatively new to following Christ on a daily basis…and everything that happened to me from January til May was very out of the norm [for me], this situation included. However, who am I to judge God’s will?

Aimee, your story resonates with me and no matter where I am in my walk with God, it seems that on the days I feel I have nothing to give…I read your blog and become fulfilled with the joy of the Lord. What a blessing you are! What a blessing your family is!

Your testimony brings me to tears and is a reminder of how glorious God is. Oooohh the workings God is doing through you and your family for His glory–sends shivers!

  26. 7-10-2012

A big Hello to Aimee and her family. In french, Aimee means – Loved. This has such a huge meaning right now. I can see you’re receiving so much love all around the world. You can’t imagine how many people are praying for you. I’ve been praying for your healing. I was not expecting such a healing. When I prayed for you, I wanted you to be radically healed. But after reading your recent news, I realised God has healed you in quite a different way. I believe He has deeply touched your heart. I believe He has touched other people’s hearts through your testimony. Sometimes we except concret, complet healing but God can work differently. I praise God for your smile on the pictures, for your positive attitude and in the midst of it all you’re – Aimee, you’re – LOVED.
    Blessings from Paris, France. Delphine

  44. 7-15-2012

Aimee Good morning, my name is Denis I write here 28 years in Brazil. This morning I opened a magazine and came across your story and the facts that led to this, I confess that I was very sad for everything that happened to you, especially when it comes to a beautiful young woman and a bright future ahead. Fifteen years ago my father had a problem called “Erysipelas” and very nearly did not lose his arm. I remember that our family was very shaken by his suffering even more ’cause here in Brazil the health system is very precarious and inhuman. Finally I want to go on record here sinseros my good wishes and that you and your family together overcome all the difficulties surrounding their diagnosis and say I was very pleased to see your photos recovering and still maintain that their lush beauty. I’m here cheering for their improvement and leave a big hug from a friend who is far away. God bless you!

  50. 7-16-2012

Aimee, I am a New Zealander living in Australia and heard about your accident when i was reading the news on the internet. I followed your story ever since. To think how young you are and what you have been through. Nothing can compared with my issues to yours! You have a loving father ( and family!!) and as a parent of 16 and 18 year old teens, it makes me sad to hear about anyone”s child getting hurt let alone having limbs amputated!! Stay strong and and remember this! You are still alive and there are alot of people praying and thinking about you in your hours of need. So don’t give up, keep fighting and be an inspiration to us all!
I know you have changed my life!

I just read about this very tragic situation. My heart goes out to Aimee for all she has endured. She is an inspiration to so many.
The phantom pain that she is feeling – is that because of the pain pathways that have been established in the brain. I encourage you to try HBO treatments. It may help in this area of pain relief.
My grandaughter had a terrible pain condition from age 7- 11 and is in remission. It was like phantom pain. She started HBO 2 x a week and has been pain free for over 2 1/2 years. contact me for info.

  52. 7-20-2012

I want to send a special cyberhug to Aimee’s mom. I can not imagine the roller coaster this has been for you. May God continue to give you the strength you need each day. I truly admire you.

  53. 7-20-2012

    beautiful!

  54. 7-24-2012

Amy, You are an inspiration. I just heard of your story. It strikes me as unthinkable the things that I have no doubt stressed over while you were there battling for your life. Your story sure puts things into perspective. At the same time – my prayer for you is that you can keep hope and faith through this. I know your life has a purpose beyond yourself. Too, I hope that with modern medicine that perhaps you will even be able to have transplants some day. Either way, it is true what your dad said – you have a beautiful spirit and so much to offer the world that will flow out of who you are – the heart, mind and spirit of yourself. Know that many stand with you and are believing with you for your continued recovery and for an abundance of good things in your life and future. Much love, Kelly

  55. 7-26-2012

    Dear Mr Copeland,

thank you so much for sharing the moving story of your wonderful daughter and for posting some pictures of Aimee leaving the now world-famous hospital. I am deeply convinced that she will play a great role in the American society -to say the least. And you all -as a family- you are since then inspiring me and all my friends and colleagues. Although we haven’t yet met personally, I can’t deny my strong feelings of the deepest sympathy for you.
You are showing the best aspects of your great country -probably the only place on earth where all the different ethnic groups are gathering and living together believing in a far better future!

    Sincerely yours
    Atsushi Kono

  56. 7-29-2012

Aimee you are the bravest person. I congratulate you on your grit. Don’t know if I could do what you are doing!

  57. 7-29-2012

Aimee: I don’t know if you’ll ever get to the bottom of all of your messages to see this one… but I’ve thought of you a lot and was praying for you continuously during your first month and a half after your accident. I am also a kayaker and outdoor enthusiast. I have a son that is almost your age.

You will continue to be in my prayers. I’m glad to see you are getting a wing on your home soon and pray for God to be continually with you. You will finish school, and have a job where you can bless others. I know it.

    🙂 Blessings on you!

I assure you that I read all the responses, but I don’t have time to reply to all of them. In many responses, people ask for prayers and we pray for all of them. I wish I had time to reply to every post, but if I did I would never get anything else accomplished and I assure you, my honey-do list is long.

In time, I know that Aimee will read all the responses. Unfortunately, she is unable to read them because this website is blocked as an “unknown site” at her rehab facility.

God bless you and thank you for your prayers and concerns.

Thank you for your updates. I left Amy a brief message but am going through a similar situation with my niece who has been in the hospital since 10/5 with bacterial infection/septic shock. She is doing better now except they still fear they will need to amputate below the right knee. It has been a month and I was wondering if you have any suggestions for support groups, etc.? Thank you and God bless your family.

Dear Amy, I am on facebook as A. M. Langan. My life for the past three years has been a living hell as my HOA sued me over a tree. As A believer I decided to speak the truth and hold my ground, many times during the past three years the fight has worn me so thin as I am 57 and defending us in court. You know where I am going dont cha? Well, shame on me for ever feeling sorry for myself, you are such an amazing young woman. You have been in my prayers since day one. Your story was so painful to hear about I knew I couldnt have made it through, I used to pray the Lord would peacefully take you, I guess He has other plans and you must too. Know that you are highly esteemed and God sees not as man sees. Your lovely smile and face remain the same, keep the face dear child keep the faith.

    Hi Aimee,

You are such an amazing person! Reading everything about what you have endured and your strength of character, heart, mind, and soul puts you in a very special category of human beings. You are the epitome of who I would want my grandchildren to emulate.

I am going to copy and paste a short article I just read on the News website I frequent (where I initially read about you.)You would be the perfect person for this young woman to speak with when she comes out of her induced coma. I’m sure she will not be expecting the changes in her body. Someone like you Aimee, with your strength and endurance will be able to let her know that there is plenty of life out there and she can be a part of it, like you have Aimee. The article is copied below:

A metro Atlanta woman who has battled and overcome cancer twice is back in the hospital battling a potentially life-threatening infection, MyFoxAtlanta reported.

It was seven years ago this week that Hannah Rinehart, 32, was declared cancer free. Since then, her family has been watchful for sign for the slightest infection.

Two bone marrow transplants left her immune system suppressed, meaning that normally harmless bacteria can turn into a deadly infection for her.

This is what happened when she became infected with a bacteria commonly found in dog saliva. Her husband, Mark, believes she became infected from the couple’s puppy.

Doctors at Northside Hospital had to put Hannah in a drug-induced coma about a month ago as a result of the infection. Now family members are preparing for her to awaken to a new world.

During her slumber, Hannah developed circulatory issues which led to doctors having to amputate her hands and feet.

    Aimee-

Stay strong and maintain your unwavering spirit. You and your family have set an example of enduring faith and vigilant determination that is second to none. You may never know why this happened to you, but what you do know and should know is that you are a living miracle and subsequently a brilliant beacon of inspiration for millions of people, including myself. I can’t begin to explain to you how amazed I am to this day at your and your family’s steadfast positivity throughout your situation. If your smile is a reflection of your attitude, your spirit is truly stifling. I will leave you w/ a quote that you have no doubt heard before, if not a hundred times by now, but I thought it to be very suitable here:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.

And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.

    -Charles Swindoll

Thank you for who you are. I wish you the best w/ your goal this December and I look forward to following your speedy recovery.

    Sincerely,

    Phillip Vinson

Your Story is amazing. I too survived the Flesh Eating Bacteria from the Strep A bacteria.
I pray that your spirit stays strong and that when you have those days that you don’t understand why, just hold on to Jesus and draw strength from His Word. God doesn’t promise he will tell us “why” things happen the way they do, but he does tell us that he will never leave us nor forsake us. He promises to give you peace, strength, hope and grace.

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I am

I too have spent many months in hospital/rehab and I know how great it is to finally go home. How great that Pulte Homes and generous donors made your home accessible for you. Have a beautiful life Aimee.

Omg. Amee, I read your bio and I will do all I can to help save your life. I am donating blood and my mom is taking it because she is a nurse and I know she will do all she can cause she knows how much I want to help people. I go to mill creek high school in Dacula Georgia. We heard a lot of stories about you. All I want to say is that I will do everything I can to help you. EVERYTHING THAT IS POSSIBLE. If you don’t mind, I could love to meet you in person because reading things off a computer screen is not the same as telling it in person. It means more and has more feeling to benefit both of the people. I hope you get better and I hope you have time to read this and consider talking face to face with me.

From the get-go I have been so concerned about you. My brother-in-law had a very close call with NF about 10 years ago. He was playing soccer and hit with the ball on his ankle and hours later he is fighting for his life. In lieu of amputation he had one of his legs basically grafted back together and is now doing well. So, when any of our family hears about NF we take a very personal concern having had some experience with this incredible bacteria! Amy, I am so thankful to hear of your amazing recovery and how you are not only thriving but surviving. You have been placed in this position for a very special reason. I’ll be following your wonderful progress. God Bless you.
